Keep It Simple Judy

We love to buy scrapbooking paper. We are drawn to the designs, the style, and the colors. Often we find a paper pack or pad with a theme that speaks to us, but once home, we find we don’t know what to do. We flip through the pages and we see journaling cards and border strips.

Nothing compares to the beautiful, vibrant colors and designs in Graphic 45 paper.  A few weeks ago, I bought the incredibly detailed Graphic 45 Vintage Hollywood paper pad from The Funkie Junkie. The pad has twenty-four pages of deep vibrant, images. The paper features intricate artwork of Hollywood images and movie posters in the art deco period and style.

It feels sooo wrong to cover up such beautiful artwork. How do I justify purchasing paper that I won’t use because covering up the art seems shameful? What could I do with this paper that would preserve the beauty yet allow me to create something? Here’s my answer. Trim out an image, choose a coordinating paper to create a calming frame around the image, and add a couple of die cuts from Southern Ridge Trading Company I purchased from The Funkie Junkie. Here’s my finished card.

To create a little extra interest, I painted the die cuts using Paper Artsy Fresco paints, the flowers are Autumn Fire, a rusty orange that matched the flowers on the paper. The leaf is painted with Sage and Winter Green. The star got its pop using Prima Art Sugar in antiqued silver.

It may have taken me a few weeks to ponder the possibilities, but once I had the direction, the card came together in a few minutes.

We buy paper and supplies to make things and enjoy the giving feeling. Don’t feel bad about using your “pretty paper”. Not using your pretty paper is like never using the “good china” except on special occasions.

You don’t have to have a ton of supplies to make a beautiful card.

I’ve entered this card in the Frilly and Funkie Welcome Spring challenge. The vibrant oranges, yellows and greens are a part of Spring. Colors we love to see after a cold winter.

I love to hear from you. Please leave your comment below.
