Art from Recycled Objects

Earth Day is coming up soon. Earth Day encourages us to stop and think about how pollution, litter, waste, and overuse affects our planet. This is not a political day nor should it be. This day is about the little things we learned in kindergarten, don’t litter, don’t dump your trash in creeks and rivers and don’t be wasteful with natural resources.

The words reduce, reuse, recycle can be applied to art. For some of us, our art is completely based on reusing and upcycling. Here is my nod to reusing and upcycling an old metal tray. The ferns were taken from an old flower arrangement. The seashells were gathering dust in our bookcase. The light blue glass came from the burnt out ruins of an old house. The gears and sprockets were salvaged from old watches. The chain on the diving helmet came from an old ceiling fan and I used some sort of metal washer to make the faceplate on the diving helmet stand out. upcyclemermaid

Thanks for looking and as always, comments are welcome.

I’ve entered this piece in a contest over on the Frilly and Funkie blog.

New Beginning

I’m transitioning to a new hosting website. Please be patient as I learn to customize and create new posts. My plan to is branch out a little and create some tutorials and product reviews to explain my journey as a wannabee artist.

Thanks so much for your patience. Here is an altered Altoid tin for all the fairy lovers out there. I used a fairy and small mulberry paper flowers from Prima Marketing.

Hope you like her. She was a lot of fun to create.
