March Madness – Art Journal Page

I am a University of Kentucky basketball fan. I graduated from the University of Kentucky. I bleed blue. So, how in the world did I end up using LSU (Louisiana State University) colors in my art journal?
I spent the day trying to come up with colors for my art journal. I had an idea of a couple of elements I wanted to use, a window frame die cut, some sand texture paste, and a picture of the desert. I was listening to the pre-game show on the radio as I pondered. Kentucky’s opponent – LSU. LSU colors, purple, gold white. Painted desert. The LSU colors fit perfectly.

I used my Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (Blackberry Cordial and Fully Purple), Chalkboard (Bittersweet and Pot o’ Gold), and Plain Jane Baseboard (Gravel) sprays to create the background. I mixed a little of the Plain Jane Baseboard Gravel in to the modeling paste and used a stencil to create more texture to the pages. I used the Bittersweet and Pot o’ Gold to dye the crinkle ribbon and hand stitched the ribbon on to a piece of burlap scrap.

The doodling in the right corner is original, something I started as a part of the Wanderlust classes I’m taking. The other images sprinkled around are a rubber stamp from my collection.
I covered the window die cut in sand texture paste. After the texture paste dried, I added a little color to the sand with the Gravel spray. Glued the window to my picture.

It felt disloyal to use an opposing team’s colors, but on this night, UK beat LSU to clinch the second seed in the SEC tournament. Go Big Blue! And LSU, thanks for inspiring me to use your school colors.
